Free Downtown Martinez Wi-Fi Network
Up and Running
The City of Martinez is
excited to announce the availability of a free downtown Wi-Fi network,
providing laptop and smartphone users along Main Street; parts of Court Street;
inside the Amtrak Station (including on the station platform); and City Hall
Council Chambers and Plaza area (near the fountain) access to a free, fast, and
dedicated wireless Internet service connection. The City partnered with
AirCloud Communications on this sophisticated and complex project that took
almost 2 years to develop and implement. AirCloud currently manages the
City of Pleasant Hill’s Wi-Fi network, and isolated “hotspots” within Clayton,
Concord, and Antioch.
The Wi-Fi network will
include a free service option with advertisements from local and regional
businesses, and a paid service option that will operate at faster speeds and
not include the advertisements. Businesses wishing to participate in the
Wi-Fi advertising will be able to select from a variety of marketing packages
based on the number of “impressions” per month (defined as actual viewings by a
Wi-Fi user), as well as premium placement opportunities. Because
advertisements from Martinez businesses will be seen by users throughout the
network in other cities, the Wi-Fi network will create a potentially
significant marketing opportunity for local merchants. The Chamber of
Commerce and Main Street Martinez will work with AirCloud representatives to
help promote the various advertising options.
To connect to the WiFi
network, simply connect to the "aircloud-free-wifi" wireless network
and open your browser for instructions.
